Mission
Our mission is to provide instructional and competitive amateur Rugby opportunities that enhance character, community, and love of the game of Rugby. MBARA operates Rugby teams that compete in the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union and RugbyPA.
Club History
Early Beginnings
Founded in the Spring of 1988, Montgomery/Bucks RFC originated as North Penn RFC, one of the few rugby organizations to have emerged from a youth rugby side into a full-fledged athletic association offering rugby to players of all ages. The club was founded on the premise that rugby can and should be built “from the ground up”.
The first team ever to take the field for MBRFC earned a berth in the USA National High School tournament in 1988, finishing eighth overall in the USA. The club became a Pennsylvania nonprofit corporation in 1991 and began to conduct organized fundraising and recruiting activities. MBRFC has since been successful in recruiting athletes from all local districts– North Penn, Central Bucks, Methacton, Pennridge and Souderton schools. The club is affiliated with the Hatfield American Legion, thereby gaining access to a practice pitch, permanent clubhouse facilities, and thanks to the generosity of the Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation, the club has a formal match pitch on land adjacent to the Legion property. The club has hosted many rugby related events such as EPRU Referees clinics, USA Rugby coaching clinics, and our Guest Player Program has hosted players from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Argentina, Spain and the UK. MBRFC’s reputation as a competitive, organized, and well-funded club is firmly established. MBRFC has worked diligently to solidify its reputation as being among the most organized and best-administered rugby organizations in the region.
Currently
After much reflection there was a unanimous decision to institute organizational changes to aid in our growing organization in reaching its fullest potential; chief among them being the importance of unifying our “brand”. Since that time, several meetings have been held and a Unification Committee was formed in order to facilitate this transitional process.
January 1st, 2021, MBARA Board announced the unification of our brand. There will be many steps still to take before we solidify a final transition, but the first step will be to formally unify all our members under one name. We are proud to announce that we are now Montgomery Bucks RFC, Griffins across all teams! We are hoping that this branding helps cement the idea that all players, parents, supporters are all part of one big MBRFC family.
